Primary school Osnovna škola Tituša Brezovačkog is a public school founded in 1964 in Zagreb. The school is located in the western part of Zagreb, in a growing suburb and has almost 1100 students at the moment, from 7 to 14 years old classified into 43 grades.

The School

There are 70 teachers working in the school, and three specialist associates (pedagogue, speech therapist and psychologist). Students learn English and German languages. The School has an English newspaper "English extra". The school teaches bilingual students of the Western part of Zagreb city the Croatian language. In these groups there is Croatian Language Module 1 for foreign students, students who are immigrants or asylum seekers and Module 2 for minority students.

School is also in a national Model C programme for preserving minority language and culture for the Albanian minority. There is a long tradition of a half day stay unit in the afternoon when school is finished for students at risk or with behavioral problems. The group is a result of a partnership between the school, home, and the Local Centre of Social Welfare. It is recognized as a school with a European dimension that cares about diversity, environment, heritage, and healthy lifestyle. The school has experience in eTwinning. For more than 20 years, the School has cooperated with Zagreb University and the Croatian Agency for Education. We are a practicum for University students of Teacher Academy and Physics and so teachers are implementing new pedagogical approaches and creativity in their daily classroom.

The School motto is “School that grows with the students” and our goal is to have students eager to learn and loving going to school. The school has extensive extra-curricular activities, especially activities which are fostering knowledge of STEM subject like Astronomy, Robotics, GLOBE and Abacus. There is a special program for gifted students in the STEM area. It has two ICT cabinets and 5 IT teachers. Students learn IT from the 1st grade (age 7) and are required to learn IT in 5th and 6th grade. They can continue to learn IT till the end of primary school (8th grade).

The school offers activities which are motivating students to play sports like football, volleyball and handball in 3 new sports halls. The school is recognized (after one National health program that was part of the EPODE as well as one Erasmus + project ) as a school which motivates students for healthy lifestyle and healthy food consuming. Our school has extensive extra-curricular activities, especially activities which are fostering cultural awareness and preserving national culture like tambura instrument orchestra and folklore dance groups.
